International School of Florence – Upper School

Tuesday 31st March from 8:45 to 9:45 in the Aula Magna

Theme:  Presentation on Addictive Behaviours
All parents are invited to a meeting on the topic of addictive behaviour which will be led by Dr Sana Barada (pharmacologist, addiction therapist and ISF parent) and Dr Franca Batistini (psychiatrist). Parent participation in this meeting is highly encouraged for the successful completion and understanding of this prevention program. The meeting will be held in both English and Italian.

Addiction presentations have already been held with students from grades 8 to 12. Addictions such as eating disorders, drug addiction, mobile phone addictions are included.

The following questions will be answered plus any others that parents may wish to ask:

”What is the reason for an addiction? Since my daughter started middle school, she seems to be influenced by her friends more than by the family……How can I deal with the peer pressure put on her? Should I be her ally? Or should I exercise the authoritative figure?”

“What happens to the brain when drugs are taken and why do adolescents’ brains seem to be more at risk from addiction progression?”

“How can I tell if my children are protected from addiction? And does the concept of addiction go beyond drugs into things that are even essential to life like: food, sex, love, electronics, etc.?”

“My son keeps on telling me that cannabis is not addictive. Is it true? Do light drugs exist?”

“Is addiction a disease that can be cured?”
